IP Surveillance is rapidly entering the CCTV market and is widely regarded as the final step in the evolution of CCTV.
High speed data networks and the explosion in the internet and broadband means that video can now be transported across the network (LAN and WAN)
just like any other protocol. The industry has seen many changes in relatively
quick succession over the last few years. From traditional Analogue Cameras connected via coaxial cables to a VCR (Video Cassette Recorders),
through digital forms of data storage of Digital Video Recorders and then Networked Digital Video Recorders; IP based solutions are the final step.
The ability to use the capacity in the existing IT infrastructure to view and record video data brings many benefits in terms of flexibility, management
and cost.
Additional recent developments such as being able to power cameras across the data network (power over Ethernet) means that even further cost savings can
be realised by not having to get 12V DC power to each camera location.
